A series of master-classes on the "green" economy development

The first session of master-classes on climate risks for Tajik financial sector representatives began in the National Bank of Tajikistan on April 23, 2024, concurrently with the Climate Practices and Period Planning Program.

Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan, Naziri Gulbahor Nazir, welcomed the seminar participants and stated that the integration of the climate and environmental sectors into the financial system is a major part of the National Bank of Tajikistan's contribution to the implementation of the Green Economy Development Strategy for 2023-2037 and this issue was brought to the attention of the country's financial systems in the regular Message of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan "On the main directions of the republic's internal and foreign policy".

This event follows the Memorandum of Understanding made between NBT and EBRD in September 2023 and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) serves as a reliable partner of the National Bank of Tajikistan, collaborating not only in the field of green economy development but also in various other crucial sectors including sustainable ecology development, social policy, corporate management, investment, and the advancement of women's entrepreneurship.

In turn, Holger Wiefel, Head of the EBRD Office in the Republic of Tajikistan, stated that the series of master classes is meant for a broad range of Tajik financial sector representatives. Tajikistan is the first Central Asian country where the EBRD is implementing this Program. Participants in this Program will gain new knowledge and abilities in recognizing and managing climate-related risks, developing climate strategies and goals, and disclosing information.

It should be emphasized that the Program was designed in accordance with the EBRD's policy on Paris Agreement compliance, and its goal is to promote and assist regulatory authorities and financial institutions in greening the sector and operations.
